Dancing Queen

Friday is Guest Night at Empire Dance! It’s a free Open House of this fabulous dance studio in Chelsea. Come see what it is all about. Bring a friend or two or that guy standing next to you! Tell him that you want to be Ginger Rogers to his Fred Astaire! 127 West 25th St 11th floor Buzzer 17 between 6th and 7th Avenues. February 27, 8-10PM.

Last night my friend invited me to a free screening of “Iron Jawed Angels”, a HBO film. This screening was for the New York Women in Film and Television.

Now that I don’t have cable or even a TV, this was a treat to see! The film is about Alice Paul, a suffragist who fearlessly paved the way for the 19th amendment that granted women the right to vote.

Before the screening, there was a reception where I drank half a glass of red wine and planned to do some schmoozing with women in film. Ironically, the only person I chatted with was an older man who asked me what’s the best way to spread hummus on a pita without using fingers or cutlery. I suggested using another pita slice to do the spreading!

I’m Not In Love

“I’m not in love, so don’t forget it. It’s just a

silly phase I’m going through…” Do you remember that tune by 10cc?!

This week, there has been a glut of news and magazine articles about love, sex, relationships, etc. because of Valentine’s Day. In my opinion, it’s lazy and irresponsible to dump the love stuff on us in the shortest month of the year. Love happens every minute you breathe. I am hopping on my soapbox to say that’s OK to not be in a relationship, but you don’t have label yourself “quirkyalone” or drown your sorrows in chocolate or ice cream. Get out and notice love. Today, I heard a bird chirping and I smiled because I know that spring is coming soon!

Do You Hear What I Hear?

The creative backlash to Valentine’s Day presents itself tomorrow night (February 12)at Halcyon. For your AURAL pleasure, Halcyon is hosting its annual Anti-Valentine’s Day” Erotica event! Halcyon’s spoken word/reading series continues with “Cliterature” Erotica Reading. This reading “features 18 female writers who break away from traditional formulae to explore the many dimensions of sexual orientation and proclivity along with kink, gender and mind-play.” (Amazon).

Featured writers will include contributors Marissa Pareles, Stephanie Schroeder and others. Now that’s what I call an eargasm!

Chocolate Factory

This week is jammed pack with Fashion Week, the Westminster Dog Show and Valentine’s Day. I don’t know about you guys, but I am very confused. I don’t know whether to starve myself, bury a bone or eat chocolate!

I think I will eat chocolate! Some of the best chocolate is being made in D.U.M.B.O. at Jacques Torres Chocolate at 66 Water Street. There’s a cute little shoppe and you can always shop online if you desire. Sweet!
