The Week In Links (Social Media, Sharon Jones, Shorty Awards)

Last week was Social Media Week and the parties were flowing.

I went to the Shorty Awards, met MC Hammer and drank too many fail whales.

Friday I went to the New York screening of Nerdcore Rising at the 92nd Y Tribeca which was directed and produced by the wonderful Negin Farsad. She is definitely on my list of “people I know who should be famous”.

Saturday was Valentine’s Day, and the guy and I went to see Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at the Nokia Theatre. It was a great show!

The Week In Links (February 6) Museum Of Art of Design, Right Rides Fundraiser

First Lady 2.12.09

It’s Monday the 9th, so I am late with this blog post.

Yesterday, I visited the brand new Museum of Art and Design at 2 Columbus Circle. There’s some cool work there. The Artist studio  on the 6th floor had Harlem artist Charles McGill working on a golf bag.  He decoupages golf bags with African American images and quotes that he finds through Google searches on the internet.  The result is iconic patterns created by repetition of .jpgs.

Netflixed: Breakfast on Pluto

Queercents Interviews: Robin Cloud and Daryn DeZengotita

New York Tech Meetup:  I’m on the Community Committee

Fundraiser: First Lady Fundraiser on February 12 at 7-10PM, $10.  It’s a fundraiser for Girls for Gender Equity, RightRides, and SAFER.

The Week In Links: Obama, Casa Mono, Momofuku (January 23)

momofuku pork bun, originally uploaded by nichellest.

We can stop saying “President-Elect Obama” now because Barack is in the White House. Yay!

Here are the links:

  • Tapas at Casa Mono was a great way to celebration Inauguration Night. The pumpkin and goat cheese croquetas were so yummy.
  • Whitehouse.gov is a great site to not only follow what’s going on with the 44th President, but it is good to brush on your American history knowledge with a listing of all presidents.
  • Stopped by the Serious Eats Happy Hour and then a few went over to Momofuku Milk Bar where we ate soft serve ice cream. The flavors chocolate malt and orange julius were my favorites.  I also had my first ever Momofuku pork bun (pictured above). It was so good.
  • Worked at New Work City today and got a sneak peek of  Tony and Todd’s co-working book, “I’m Outta Here”.
  • Read the blog posts by Michelle and Anita, the two writers at I Can Bring Home The Bacon.
