Today, I went to the Fountain Art Fair at Pier 66 and saw this cool installation, The Donkey Party” by Gregory Habenry. Pictured above are cupcakes from Greg’s installation. My new client, Glowlab, a cool art gallery in Soho, had some of their artists’ work at Fountain as well.
Friday: sniffling, sneezing, and got the bridesmaid’s sandals delivered from Macys.
Saturday: sniffling, coughing but also joined Weight Watcher’s Online (for my sister’s wedding).
Sunday: blowing my nose, sniffling, and watched the Oscars at Comix.
Best compliment I got this week: A nice young lady at the cupcake meetup asked me if the pink shirt I wore was American Apparel. I told her I am too fat for American Apparel, but thanks!
Friday I went to the New York screening of Nerdcore Rising at the 92nd Y Tribeca which was directed and produced by the wonderful Negin Farsad. She is definitely on my list of “people I know who should be famous”.
Saturday was Valentine’s Day, and the guy and I went to see Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at the Nokia Theatre. It was a great show!
Yesterday, I attended a fun Electrolux press event. Kelly Ripa, the Electrolux spokeswoman, introduced their Valentine’s Day promotion where you can send a virtual cupcake to your sweetheart and Electrolux will donate $1 to ovarian cancer research. There are also auctioning off a Red Hot washer/dryer on Ebay.
The bidding on the “Red Hot Red” kitchen – which includes a built-in range, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave – starts Wednesday, February 11th at 3 p.m. EST and lasts until 3 p.m. EST on Wednesday, February 18th. All proceeds of the charity auction benefit the OCRF as part of Electrolux’s commitment to help this worthy cause.
It’s Monday the 9th, so I am late with this blog post.
Yesterday, I visited the brand new Museum of Art and Design at 2 Columbus Circle. There’s some cool work there. The Artist studio on the 6th floor had Harlem artist Charles McGill working on a golf bag. He decoupages golf bags with African American images and quotes that he finds through Google searches on the internet. The result is iconic patterns created by repetition of .jpgs.
We can stop saying “President-Elect Obama” now because Barack is in the White House. Yay!
Here are the links:
Tapas at Casa Mono was a great way to celebration Inauguration Night. The pumpkin and goat cheese croquetas were so yummy.
Whitehouse.gov is a great site to not only follow what’s going on with the 44th President, but it is good to brush on your American history knowledge with a listing of all presidents.
Stopped by the Serious Eats Happy Hour and then a few went over to Momofuku Milk Bar where we ate soft serve ice cream. The flavors chocolate malt and orange julius were my favorites. I also had my first ever Momofuku pork bun (pictured above). It was so good.
Worked at New Work City today and got a sneak peek of Tony and Todd’s co-working book, “I’m Outta Here”.
January is moving too fast for my liking. We’re already mid-month, and next week is MLK Day and the Inauguration. Check my bit.ly for some of the links I twittered this week.
The word this week is “microcelebrity”. This word is over! That kind of “fame” is relative to the number of people who know you and talk about you when you are not there. It is not even real fame or even “long tail” fame. It is chatter that is fleeting. Get over yourself.
