Walk

Via Email from Welsh Assembly Gov’t: There’s a new self-guided walking tour of Greenwich Village, New York, visiting ten places associated with Dylan Thomas has newly been published by the Welsh Assembly Government’s New York office. The tour has been written by Aeronwy Thomas, daughter of Dylan, and Swansea poet Peter Thabit Jones. You can print out the tour by going to Dylan Thomas.

Via Brooklyn Based Artists Wanted, heads to Chelsea to host a block party outside White Box gallery for the opening of Kim Holleman’s Solo Show, “TRASHNAMI! CIRCA 2012: Ruminations on a Changing World,” where her surreal “land art,” like a massive, trash-bag tidal wave and mobile public park (a k a “Trailer Park”) will be installed. Outside, a flatbed truck will stage DJs for the celebratory street party. July 17th, 6- 11 pm, 525 West 26 St., whiteboxny.org

Rising Up

Saturday, I went to the 16th Annual Park Slope Open Studio Tour. My friends and I started the tour at MadArts, a group artist studio in South Slope. We met some innovative artists including Paul Mallo, Joetta Maue, Jimmy Fountain and Brooke Toczylowski. Then we stopped Richard Egan’s house, as well as few other places before hopping on a bus to get to a fashion/art party in an area of Brooklyn that I like to call Pro-Crow (Prospect Heights/Crown Heights). Later, we went to a  couple of ICFF design parties in Soho and drank champagne out of a can.

brooklyn bridge art from bwac, originally uploaded by nichellest.

Yesterday was a culture-filled Saturday. First I went to Red Hook for the BWAC Spring Show. A few of the artists celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge by creating lovely pieces inspired by the bridge.

Second, my friends and I went up to Chelsea to the Cueto Project, a massive gallery and artist co-op space, to attend the opening reception of Russian artist Alexander Ponomarev who exhibited his work, Surface Tension.

Third, attended a party for the IRT Theater in the Village where Andy Horowitz is the new creative director.

Fourth, stopped by Leo Kesting Gallery and chatted with artist Brian Leo whose I have seen previously at Jonathan Shorr. Gallery.

Lastly, ate bread while my friends had dinner at Florent.

Since I am cleaning out my purse of cards and flyers, I bring you more art and links from TOAST.

The picture above is part of a multimedia installation from Brooklyn artist Simone Leigh.  It’s the back of Lt. Uhura’s head from Star Trek.

Murray Hidary has a lovely apartment, plays cello and a great photography.

Artist Beth Dary does fascinating work with stick pins.

Saturday, I walked around Tribeca for the Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tour (AKA TOAST). There were less artists this year, there was no cheese or Krispy Kreme doughnuts either.

One of the artists I whose work I really like is Donna Rosenthal’s work. She crochets pretty dresses with thin wire and also makes dresses out of old newspapers and catalogs.

Stop Me

Things I really like right now:

Russell Brand. He is so hot that I may consider going to see a Judd Apatow movie, but in the meantime, I will read his biography, My Booky Wook.

Daniel Merriweather. The Aussie has more soul in his pinky toe than Amy Winehouse  has in her entire pinky body.

TOAST. Also known as the Tribeca Open Artist Studio Tour. I have been going for two years and I thoroughly enjoy the permutations of bad art/good wine, good art/bad wine, good cheese/bad wine, great art/no wine and etc.

Me like free: I just got a package of Tetley new flavored green teas. I can’t wait to try the blueberry.
Rah Rah for Risotto: Food Blogger Not Eating Out In New York is hosting a Risotto Cook-Off on April 2.
Mission: I want to organize a baker’s dozen of participants to join me in this year’s Art Parade on September 5. The theme will be cupcakes!
